2016 Writing Goals

So, 2015 has been an interesting year. I've had some wonderful highs and some pretty spectacular lows, but my writing life has held steady for me this year as I keep moving forward with all my projects. Each time I feel frustrated, I remind myself that I am in this for the long haul. Y'all aren't getting rid of me any time soon. I have a whole cast of characters in my head clamoring to be heard. They are pretty annoying, really. So let's take a look at who will get out of the gate in 2016.

Writing to do list:

January: Current WIP: Editing Highland Blood for February Release (pre-order available now. Everyone say a prayer with me that I make deadline)

Feb/March - Writing project for a box set (and top secret steampunk, not Lily, project)

April-June - Work on The Torn World (looking at a July pub on the LAST book in The Harvesting Series)

July-August - Work on Chasing the Fog (looking to pub the LAST Airship Racing Chronicles book in October). I think I am, finally, emotionally ready to revisit Lily and close the lid on that series. I set her aside for the summer so I can focus on completing her story the way it deserves.

Fall 2016 - Highland Queen - I expect this will be the most difficult book to finish in 2016. The current beats need fixed and I need to fill in a lot of holes. Per usual, the Bard's girl is giving me fits

Other projects:

I also have covers for 6 other books. Yes, 6.

What are they? Well...I have 3 "top secret" steampunk books I want to write, a contemporary romance series (you'll dig it, I promise) I've got the first cover for, something fey, and the cover for Imogen, the follow-up to Ink. Will I get to these in 2016? I hope!

Above all, I want to finish my three series in 2016 so next year at this time I have a blank slate. I have several stand-alone novels begging for attention and this bossy heroine in a future New Orleans who is getting pretty mean about the work she wants done. She's kinda scary...in a good way. I need to write faster. In 2015, I curated and formatted 2 collections on behalf of my imprint and wrote just shy of 200,000 words while also working a full-time job, a part-time job, and I have two small children. I still think I can do better.

Looking forward to what the new year brings!

Thanks to all my readers for being there for me this year. I love and appreciate each and every one of you!

Cover Reveal: Highland Blood, The Celtic Blood Series II

Sunday, December 27, 2015

Hi everyone,

I'm really excited to share this beautiful new cover by Damonza for Highland Blood, The Celtic Blood Series II. This is the second novel in this series, which was formerlly titled The Saga of Lady Macbeth. We did a little rebranding on the series and I love the new look. Book II picks up right where Book 1 left off. Corbie has just left the enchanted world of Ynes Verleath and believes she's on her way to reunite with Banquo. Since this novel is based on a Shakespeare play, I'm sure you won't be too surprised when things don't go as planned.

Here is a description for Book II:

Scotland, 1032—When a marriage contract calls Gruoch away from Ynes Verleath, she leaves with the hope she'll be reunited with Banquo. But fate has different plans. Lies, betrayal, and violence await her. Set on a collision course with destiny, Gruoch soon finds herself thrust into the arms of another man. Her dreams shattered and rattled by unexpected brutality, it becomes more than Gruoch can handle. The raven, however, is no stranger to carnage. Fierce power grows inside Gruoch, and more than anything, it craves bloody revenge.

Fans of Outlander and The Mists of Avalon will relish this sweeping Scottish Historical Fantasy that tells the tale of Gruoch, a woman struggling to escape her fate without blood on her hands.

Continue the Celtic Blood Series with Book II, Highland Blood.

Progress notes...

I am knee deep in edits on this novel right now, but it will release in February and is available for pre-order on Amazon. Per her usual self, Corbie is giving me all kinds of trouble. I'm pretty sure she wants me to rewrite this novel the way she wants it. That said, I've let her win on one point which I'll cover in the author's note in this books. Let's see who wins in the end :)

If you are new to the series, you can find Highland Raven, the first book in this series that chronicles the life of the woman who will one day become Lady Macbeth, here:

Witch Wood on Audiobook!

Saturday, December 26, 2015

Just a little update to share that Witch Wood is now available on audiobook!

If you've been listening to the series on audio, you'll be excited to hear (ha!) that Kristin James and I are back for the 4th book in The Harvesting series on Audible. In case you missed Witch Wood, here is the novella description:

Harm none, and be ready for zombies.
In the little town of Brighton, Amelia's practice of Wicca has always marked her as odd. But Amelia can't change what she is. Knowing how to see auras, heal, and create spells comes naturally to her. Only Madame Knightly, the ancient matriarch and owner of Witch Wood Estate to whom Amelia plays caretaker, doesn't seem to mind her conjoining. In fact, the crumbling old mansion is full oddities.
When modern treatments fail to make a dent in the flu outbreak sweeping the globe, those who once ridiculed her white witchcraft turn to Amelia for help. While her eucalyptus tinctures prove no more effective than Western medicine, her spell-casting is another matter. The residents of Brighton soon depend on the very magic they once ridiculed to save their lives.

Christmas Treats Giveaway Hop! Win $10 Amazon Cash!

Friday, December 18, 2015

I love this time of year! For my day job, I'm a professor at a local college. That means, at this time of year, I'm on break! Usually that means epic binge reading and TV watching! Right now I'm powering through Chanda Hahn's and Marissa Meyer's series. Love them both. About to start my binge of Vikings. As someone who writes about vikings, I should have started watching this series long back. This season, for many of us, is all about the BINGE. We binge on food, drink, and items. We also binge on time with friends, family, and many of us donate to charity at this time of year. It's fun to binge on all the really great things.

Let's make sure you have some extra spending money to binge as you like as well. How does $10 Amazon cash sound?

Excerpt Two hands gently lifted the hood off to reveal a beautiful young woman with almost black eyes. Her hands shook slightly as she let the hood fall back to reveal long, black locks of hair that cascaded down her back. The deed was done. She couldn’t go back on her decision now. It was out of her hands. Her father would have to accept her now. Even if he went back on his word again, she could provide the family with another dragon. She closed her eyes and imagined the look of surprise on his face. “Daughter, how did you do this?” he would say. She would reply, “It was simple really, Ahbah.” With amazement in his eyes, her father would take her and accept her as part of the clan. No longer would she be an outcast; she would truly be an Agamid.

Limitless Publishing

Summary from Goodreads:

United America runs like a machine. Everyone has a job and a purpose to make the country run smooth and efficiently. Nothing is left up to chance. The people are under constant monitoring for the good of the Country. After careful consideration every citizen is given their career at the age of sixteen. "Rosaline, come now!" ordered President Vaughn. Sixteen-year-old Rosaline Thatcher got up from her seat among her classmates and walked toward the stage. The sound of her blood pumping resounded deeply in her ears and, perhaps for the first time in her life, a reminder to breathe was necessary. All eyes were on her. She knew this day was coming, the day when she would be asked to serve her country in the career path chosen for her, but as she moved closer to the stage with President Vaughn and further away from her parents and dearest friends, she wondered why she was being singled out. What future lies ahead for Rosaline? In a country where citizens blindly follow the rules, what will happen when one girl dares to defy them, and what does that mean for United America?
