Indie Bookfest Meet the Authors Hop & Giveaway!

This year will see a few firsts for me, including my first visit to Indie Bookfest! I'm looking forward to meeting fans and the authors I've met online! I feel a little fangirl-ish at the thought! As part of the "Meet the Authors" event, I'll be sharing some interview questions prepared by the event organizers so you can get to know me a bit better. Feel free to pop around my blog and check things out. I am, at heart, a fantasy writer. I have steampunk and zombie/dark fantasy series on the market, with more to come in both series! Be sure to check out my giveaways. This is a busy week on my blog! I look forward to meeting everyone at Indie BookFest 2014:

IBF Meet the Author 2014 Interview

Tell us a little bit about your book(s) and yourself.

Thanks so much for this great opportunity to chat about my works. As for me, what can I say? I am a mom, wife, professor, and writer. In other words, I am a woman desperately in need of minions and a spa day. But, I love my crazy life, and I love the Indie book revolution! I feel so enthralled to see writers taking back their power (as I see it) and am so pleased to be part of Indie Bookfest 2014!

I currently have two series (I say currently because there will be more by August), a zombie/dark fantasy series titled The Harvesting Series. The first novel, The Harvesting, features Layla, a kick-butt female protagonist. In The Harvesting, Layla discovers that the death of mankind has made room for other power-hungry, dark, supernatural forces. Zombies are not our only problem. In the end, Layla must fight to save everything and everyone she loves.

I am also the author of The Airship Racing Chronicles, a steampunk romantic adventure series, featuring airship racer and opium addict Lily Stargazer. Readers meet Lily in the first novel of the series, Chasing the Star Garden, just as she hits the bottom of the barrel. Then, much against her will, Lily is thrust on an adventure to recover a lost treasure. As Lily seeks to uncover ancient mysteries, she also comes to confront herself. The second novel in the series, Chasing the Green Fairy, releases March 4th. This novel follows Lily on a new adventure as she chases the secrets of the British realm--and her heart.

When was your first book published?

The Harvesting was published in September of 2012.

Why did you decide to become an Indie Author?

Honestly, I just got really sick of other people deciding if my novels should or should not be read. I didn’t like my future career, or lack thereof, determined by marketability and a handful of others' opinions. I know I can write well, and I have good stories; who is to say they shouldn’t be read? I took on a steampunk DIY attitude and got to work!

Are you currently working on anything?

I am currently writing Book III of The Airship Racing Chronicles titled Chasing the Fog and Book II of The Harvesting Series titled The Shadow Aspect. As well, I am completing the final edits on a YA/NA Paranormal Alt. History novel I intend to publish late spring 2014.

Who and what inspired you to write?

I have always written. Since I was a little girl I wrote newspapers, short stories, plays, and even wrote my first novel at the age of 12. I wrote my first play in the 5th grade. It was a “gripping” story about a mafia lounge singer named Emerald Sky.

I have always written, even when I wasn’t technically writing. I have written 6 full-length novels (some of which will never see the light of day) and just as many unfinished 100 page books (some of which need TLC). I have what feels like a million stories in my head right now, hopefully I find time to get them all written!

Who is your favorite character in your books?

I really adore both Lily and Layla, but Grandma Petrovich from The Harvesting is probably my favorite of all my secondary characters. Grandma Petrovich is Layla’s grandmother. She is a medium who foresees the death of humanity. She tries to prepare Layla in the most practical ways, including buying her an automatic weapon! I really adore her bossy, know-it-all attitude. As for my guys, I have a book boyfriend crush on Lord Byron.

What is your favorite book of all time?

The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley.

Tell us in one sentence why we should read your books.

In my novels you’ll find fantastic worldbuilding, loveable characters, exciting supernatural elements, and crisp writing.

How about we get you started on both of my series? It's giveaway time!
